CalculatriceTaxes.ca is a free tool for working out GST, QST, HST and PST. Please read the limits below before relying on a result. The French version of this page prevails if the two versions differ.
Information, not tax advice
The calculators, guide, FAQ and blog posts are published for information and education only. They are not tax, accounting, legal or financial advice. For a GST/QST return, a large invoice or an unusual situation, talk to a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or the tax authorities.
Results are estimates
The calculator applies the general rate of the province or territory you choose and rounds each tax to the cent. It does not know your situation. In particular it does not account for:
- zero-rated or exempt goods and services (basic groceries, prescription drugs, residential rent, many financial and health services);
- point-of-sale rebates some provinces give (for example on books, children's clothing or diapers);
- special regimes: alcohol, tobacco, fuel, insurance premiums, used vehicles sold privately, tourist accommodation;
- place-of-supply rules for sales between provinces, input tax credits and the quick method;
- a rate change that has been announced but is not yet in force or not yet on the site.
A difference of a few cents from a receipt or accounting software usually comes from the rounding order (per line or on the total) and is not necessarily an error.
Check the official sources
Published rates are checked against the Canada Revenue Agency (GST and HST), Revenu Québec (QST) and the provincial finance ministries (PST and RST). For any amount that commits your business, confirm the rate on those sites before using it. Our editorial policy explains how rates are verified and updated.
